PRESS RELEASE: Domestic Violence Incident Leaves One Deceased, One Injured
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at approximately 10:58 p.m., Del Rio Police Department officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Far Hills Drive in reference to a disturbance call. Dispatch advised officers to use caution due to possible weapons involved.
Upon arrival, officers were met by juveniles and an older sibling who reported that their mother was inside the residence and unresponsive. Officers entered the home and located the woman in a bedroom suffering from severe injuries to her head and face. A hammer, believed to have been used in the assault, was recovered at the scene. Emergency Medical Services were immediately requested, and the victim was transported to Val Verde Regional Medical Center before being flown to San Antonio for further treatment. She is currently in stable condition and expected to undergo further medical evaluation.
While on scene, officers were advised that a male subject, identified as 52-year-old Oscar F. Salas, was located in the driveway, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A long hunting rifle was found next to Salas and is believed to have been used.
Detectives with the Del Rio Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division responded to process the scene, gather evidence, and interview witnesses. Preliminary investigation determined that Salas was responsible for the assault that left the victim severely injured.
The juveniles present at the residence during the incident were placed in the care of family members, and the department's Crime Victim Liaison is working closely with them to provide support and resources.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The Del Rio Police Department extends its condolences to the family of those affected by this tragic incident.”
