On April 11, 2026 Del Rio Police Officer Alexis Ramos was shot and injured while responding to a call in the 900 block of E 10th St. Since then, the Del Rio Community has been sharing their thoughts on how the City of Del Rio pays, recruits, and keeps our first responders. The shooting started an online conversation with residents, current, retired, and former police officers all concerned that the department’s pay scale isn’t competitive enough.
A filmmaker originally from Del Rio is currently in the final stages of a fundraising campaign to bring a new cinematic project to life. Lorenzo Leyva has reached a critical point in the production of his short film, “I Just Need a Moment to Breathe,” a story he describes as a celebration of artists, community, and the inherent “chaos of chasing your passion”.
On April 24, 2026, at approximately 9:46 a.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to a reported theft at a retail store located in the 2400 block of Dodson Avenue. The caller provided a description of the suspect and the license plate of the vehicle involved.
On April 20, 2026, at approximately 5:10 a.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 100 block of East Gibbs Street for a report of suspicious circumstances at a local business.
During the month of March 2026, the Del Rio Police Department experienced an increase in motor vehicle burglaries throughout the city. During the investigation, officers recovered evidence at one of the scenes that led to the identification of a suspect. As a result, an arrest warrant was obtained for Jose Alfredo Reyes, 34 years of age.
On April 19, 2026, at approximately 6:20 p.m., an officer with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 2000 block of North Bedell Avenue in reference to a reported burglary of a building that had already occurred.
Fire personnel responded to a structure fire at Ave. G and East 2nd Street Friday night at approximately 7:20 PM, successfully containing it. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The now-uninhabitable structure, a vacant home, is likely slated to be bulldozed to clear the area of safety risks.
A new community initiative is working to ensure that every high school girl in Del Rio can experience the magic of prom, regardless of her financial situation. “Fairy Godmother’s Closet” has officially launched, aiming to provide stunning prom dresses and accessories at no cost to students who may need a little extra support getting ready for their big night.
On April 13, 2026, at approximately 10:44 a.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 900 block of East 10th Street to execute a search warrant.
House Democrats will move to expel Republican Rep. Tony Gonzalez from office next week, according to a report from Axios. Gonzalez, whose vast 23rd Congressional District includes Del Rio, is already under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for his admitted affair with a staffer.
