Investigative Report: A Look at First Responder Pay and Staffing Data Following April Incident

On April 11, 2026 Del Rio Police Officer Alexis Ramos was shot and injured while responding to a call in the 900 block of E 10th St. Since then, the Del Rio Community has been sharing their thoughts on how the City of Del Rio pays, recruits, and keeps our first responders. The shooting started an online conversation with residents, current, retired, and former police officers all concerned that the department’s pay scale isn’t competitive enough.

Lorenzo Leyva has reached a critical point in the production of his short film, “I Just Need a Moment to Breathe,” a story he describes as a celebration of artists, community, and the inherent “chaos of chasing your passion”.

Suspect Apprehended with Assistance from U.S. Border Patrol K-9

During the month of March 2026, the Del Rio Police Department experienced an increase in motor vehicle burglaries throughout the city. During the investigation, officers recovered evidence at one of the scenes that led to the identification of a suspect. As a result, an arrest warrant was obtained for Jose Alfredo Reyes, 34 years of age.

Del Rio Fire Department Responded to Fire at Ave. G and East 2nd Street

Fire personnel responded to a structure fire at Ave. G and East 2nd Street Friday night at approximately 7:20 PM, successfully containing it. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The now-uninhabitable structure, a vacant home, is likely slated to be bulldozed to clear the area of safety risks.
