Suspicious Device Prompts Evacuations in Val Verde Park Estates; Sheriff’s Office Launches Investigation

Del Rio News Network journalist Eddie Martinez is on the scene in Val Verde Park Estates, where authorities are investigating a suspicious device that has prompted evacuations and a large law enforcement response. In a statement from Del Rio Police Department the Val Verde County Sheriff's Office Says:

The Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a suspicious device located in Val Verde Park Estates.

As a precautionary measure, residents on Grissom Drive between Texas Street and Lisa Street, as well as residents on Rusty Drive, are being evacuated. Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez has requested assistance from a specialized task force to ensure a thorough and safe investigation.

A temporary shelter has been established at the Tony Faz Center, located at 315 East Chapoy, for affected residents.

The Sheriff’s Office will provide updates as additional information becomes available. We appreciate the community’s cooperation and patience as we work to ensure everyone’s safety.

As part of an ongoing investigation into Welfare Check, Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigators conducted a follow up interview 100 Rusty Drive at approximately 10:00 AM, on September 17, 2025. While conducting an interview with a resident of the home, Investigators observed a suspicious container with electronic components attached to it.
