Sept. Art Walk at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery

This is a letter to the editor by Pam Bunch

When I paint, I feel like nothing else matters says Nan, and I can just live in the color and line of the moment. Nan Henke of Fredericksburg, TX. is the multi-media, featured artist for Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery, located at 100 W. Greenwood, for the September 5th First Friday Art Walk and artist reception from 7:00 pm to 10:00pm.

Nan says she was not lucky enough to have been born in the Texas Hill Country area, but she made that up for that when she married into the Fredericksburg ranching world.  It didn’t take her long to figure out that she loved it and wanted to paint everything she saw!

For decades, Nan only made short visits to the Hill Country, so she understands the let-down feeling of having to leave a place and wanting to take a little piece of the beautiful area with you.  That is what artist do with their paintings, they are providing the   viewer the ability to invest in the awesome beauty of an area or object, that’s painted on canvas or paper, so that the viewer can illuminate the heart-warming scenes forever in their home or office.  Nan does this exact thing at her own house.  She rotates a collection of her own paintings of the Hill Country, it’s wildflowers, critters, landscapes and food. She says, when life gets in the way of painting she is always surrounded by the Hill Country, which she loves so well.

Sometimes people ask Nan about the smiley-face-like symbol at the beginning of her art signature.  The “Rocking O” has been the Henke registered brand for more than 100 years.  It is very handy to put on suitcases, coolers, etc. and I also ‘brand’ my paintings with it!

When Nan asks herself, why she continues to make watercolor, ink, acrylic and digital painting a high daily priority, she recalls that she is a deeply ingrained introvert…  She suspects that God has been using the making, marketing and teaching of art to draw her out of her shell and into the kind of relationships where people can create together and talk about the things that they really care about.

Nan and her husband will be at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery  for First Friday Sept 5th, so come and meet the artist during the reception hours.   Lee-Bunch will be serving their visitors beverages, hors d’oeuvres along with homemade punch and cookies.
