The ground beneath the to-be site of Comstock ISD new career and technical education building gets broken.

Comstock ISD interim superintendent, O.K. Wolfenbarger III, also known as Mr. Wolf, shared words of gratitude on Tuesday with a group attending the Groundbreaking Ceremony of CISD’s new Career and Technical Eduction classrooms and practice gym set to be constructed adjacent to the existing school building.

Before the groundbreaking, Mr. Wolf announced that the building would be named after Billie Lee and Billy Foster, who serve CISD's school board.

“We take a moment to honor a family who has dedicated countless hours and days, many years as supporters of our school not only as parents but also as part of our school board. It is with great honor that we officially name this new building in honor of Billie Lee and Billy Foster,” Mr. Wolfenbarger announced to enthusiastic applause from the couple dozen in attendance.

Sticking straight-up from the ground were four shovels, embellished with green bows that represent Comstock ISD's colors, meant for four individuals who were to do the honors of christening the ground. They were Comstock ISD’s new superintendent, Dr. Richard Cardin; county commissioner, Fernando Garcia; Board of Trustees president, Billy Foster (after whom the building is, in-part, to be named); and Gallagher Construction personnel Todd Lewis and Claire Saiz (who represent the company constructing the new building).

After the formalities were recited, the soil was officially broken and displaced to more applause.

Dr. Rick Cardin, Comstock ISD’s newly appointed superintendent, says the goal in mind for the new space is to “expand upon our offerings to our high schoolers” and to be able to offer “some kind of industry-based certification”. Although still in the works, he reports talks of offering agricultural education, welding courses, and even cyber-security courses in the new facility.

The Billie Lee and Billy Foster CTE Building & Gymnasium (official name pending) is expected to be completed by mid-October of this year.
