In Val Verde County there are 42 children in foster care, and each has their own story and unique set of needs. The process of being removed from home, having court appearances, and meeting new people in a new school can be traumatic and inhibit a child’s sense of safety and confidence. Volunteer Supervisor for CASA of Val Verde, Megan Martinez, wants to help ease the kids they serve over these hurdles and give them a chance to "thrive, not just survive."
CASA of Val Verde is the 74th official group to join the larger network known as Texas CASA, and is led by Interim Executive Director Carmen Abreu.
CASA's lifeblood is it's volunteers, who are assigned to children's cases without being legal or social work experts. They are simply willing to help.
